Walter Jackson is a Ngarrindjeri man that utilizes cultural knowledge as avenues to motivate and inspire other Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people to participate in cultural activities. Walter was recently awarded with the Office for Young Indigenous Achiever Award for South Australia. Walter’s visual art is a reflection of his understanding and knowledge of his land.

“PELICAN’S MIST” - $500

This painting represents the Pelican’s travels. Pelicans are to the Ngarrindjeri people a sacred bird and totem meaning Ngatji. The purple colours represent a peaceful mist before day rise.






“CREATION OF THE BUTTERFISH” - $600

This painting represents the creation of the Butterfish, which is a culturally significant resource to the Narungga People. Water and Fire are the two most important elements of creation. The fire (background) represents the birth of the Butterfish.






“MURRAY COUNTRY” - $750

This painting represents Ngarrindjeri Country and how the River Murray acts as the main arteries, which pumps life (blood) through our bodies. The River Murray is home to the animal, bird and mammal life which are our totems, our friends. Our responsibilities as Ngarrindjeri People are to protect them. Murray Country is representing Ngarrindjeri People’s connection to the Murrayland areas.






“ON COUNTRY” - $850

This painting is Balgown, Yorke Peninsula, which is a significant place to the Narungga People. The Butterfish below is one of the main food resources to the people. This painting represents the view of both worlds, above and below the water; this can only be seen and appreciated by being on country.
