Active Communities

The Active Communities Field Officer joined with the Rural City of Murray Bridge’s Accessibility Advisory Committee, MurrayBridgeSpecialSchool and Community Lifestyles Inc. in presenting a “Physical Activity Showcase – Celebrating International Day of People with a disAbility”.

This collaborative event was held at beautiful Sturt Reserve, MurrayBridge on Friday 2nd December 2005, from 10am to 2pm. The aim of the day was to expose people with a disability to activities not normally experienced, such as Sailing, Rowing, Boccia, Croquet and Cycling.

In 2002 the Murraylands Recreation Sport and Open Space Strategy was released. The aim was to develop a strategic and action orientated approach to the delivery of recreation, sport and open space at the regional level. The recommended strategies that resulted from the study are as follows:

The Murraylands Active Communities Network (MACN) is a group of organisations that have a stake in the promotion and delivery of physical activity opportunities. Collectively the MACN can work towards increasing participation in active recreation and sport in turn contributing to the health, social and economic wellbeing of the region.
