Top level Community Health Services Youth Empowerment Initiative

What is the project?

The project is directed at improving the health, self esteem, parenting capacity, personal growth potential as well as the employability and economic status of pregnant or parenting young women (15-25 years) living in the Southern Fleurieu region.

The project offers many opportunities for the “voices” of young mothers to be heard, acknowledged and promoted positively in the community. It is a great opportunity to connect with other young mothers, form friendships, and have some fun!

In partnership with young mothers, the project is working towards establishing:

1. Accredited Peer Educator training program for experienced young mothers

2. School-base young mothers’ / mothers-to-be educational and support group program

3. Child care and financial help

The project will also have the longer-term goal to build community capacity, as its programs will be supported by coordinated services and collaborative partnerships with several agencies in the health, education, youth/employment, child care and local council sectors.
