Aboriginal Aged Care Program
TUMAKE YANDE (TAKING CARE OF THE ELDERLY)
Aboriginal Elders living on Ngarringdjeri Lands have a leading role to play in maintaining the culture and social customs, and the well being of all families living in the region. The influence that they possess through their knowledge their ability to express and communicate, as well as their personal histories, cannot be measured.

Objectives of the Program:
* To support the recommendations of the Regional Aboriginal Elders Advisory Committee and to enable the provision of aged care services across the region.
* To expand the current level of services used by Aboriginal families living in the region.
* To promote services with other agencies in addressing the health, housing, and welfare needs of elderly aboriginal people and their families.
* To continue to promote Aboriginal culture as an important step in improving health outcomes for Aboriginal families.
* The Aboriginal Aged Care Program is committed to the provision of services to Aboriginal Elders and their carers.
Clients eligibility and ability to receive services will be assessed by the Regional Coordinator of the Aboriginal Home Care Program.
The services provided by the Program include, but are not limited to:
* Transport—Medical, shopping, funerals
* Home Help—House cleaning, laundry etc
* Rubbish Removal—one-off yard clean-up
* Respite—carers respite or longer terms
* Advocacy—with Centrelink, FAYS, AGL Legal or other organisations
