Youth Health Project
|
The Youth Health Project was established in November 1999 to:
|
* improve youth access to health services
* enable young people to identify and voice their health needs
* support them to work on projects related to their health and well being
* give them skills in peer support & health education
Central to this project is South Coast Inspiration (SCI—pronounced “sky”).
SCI is a group of young people aged 13-18yrs, mostly High School students, from across the Southern Fleurieu region, who meet together at least twice a term at forums facilitated by the Project Officer.
SCI gives young people in the area the opportunity to have a say in issues affecting the local youth community, learn about health and well being issues, and participate in events and projects designed to promote good health and well being in young people.
Forums are held during school hours, are HEAPS of fun, and allow participants to develop life-skills in areas such as group work, project implementation, leadership, public speaking, peer education and more.
The Project Workers are co-located with other local youth services and is situated at the Southern Fleurieu Youth Centre, 2/157 Hindmarsh Road, Victor Harbor.
